BIOTOPIA is already reaching out to people all over Bavaria with numerous projects and activities and wants to bring the fascination of nature and life to the entire Free State. Whether it's competitions for budding nature photographers, citizen science projects in which anyone can easily participate and make a contribution to researching biodiversity, programs and exhibitions on tour through Bavaria, digital content or Bavaria-wide festivals: BIOTOPIA brings the Bio-Boost for Bavaria!
Capturing the beauty, distinctiveness and changeability of nature - that is the goal of the annual "Nature in Focus" photo competition, which sends children and young people between the ages of 7 and 18 on a photo safari through Bavaria. Founded in 2007 by the Museum Mensch und Natur, the competition has been organized jointly with the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment since 2010 and will be continued in the future by BIOTOPIA and the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment.
DAWN CHORUS calls on people from Bavaria and around the world to record the morning bird chorus on their doorstep and share it on a platform. The Citizen Science and Arts project, initiated by BIOTOPIA and the Foundation Art and Nature during the Silence of the Lockdown, makes birds heard - since 2021 with its own app. The recordings are mapped worldwide and enter a scientific database for biodiversity research. The "citizen scientists" thus make an important contribution to species conservation. At the same time, they become part of a global artistic project.
Even before its opening, BIOTOPIA aims to inspire enthusiasm for life and environmental sciences and natural history education beyond the borders of Munich. BIOTOPIA Mobile therefore sends exhibitions, programs and formats on a journey throughout Bavaria. Together with partner institutions, it appears in public places, green spaces and city festivals - along with exciting programs, hands-on experiments and events. BIOTOPIA Mobil thus also draws the attention of the Bavarian public to the network partners in the Free State.
Learning about life and environmental sciences at home or on the go? BIOTOPIA Digital offers numerous formats to discover and try out for yourself: Do-it-Yourself instructions and experiments, expert lectures and discussions, explanatory videos and Citizen Science projects. Virtual tours of the BIOTOPIA Lab and the Museum Mensch und Natur are also possible! The Lab@Home offers exciting ideas and experiments for home. This way, BIOTOPIA can be experienced from anywhere in Bavaria.
The Bavaria-wide festival Hi!A started in fall 2021 for the first time and brings artists and researchers in exchange. Numerous events and activities in the fields of art, music, health, environment, life sciences, high tech, future technologies and artificial intelligence throughout Bavaria are brought together here. In addition to BIOTOPIA - Natural History Museum Bavaria, the initiators are the Academies of Fine Arts Munich and Nuremberg, the German Museum, the University of Television and Film, the University of Music and Theatre Munich, the Universities of Music Nuremberg and Würzburg, ForInter.
