BIOTOPIA Code of Conduct

We are deeply committed to creating a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for our visitors, partners, staff, and participants in our analogue and digital programmes and to facilitating a respectful, productive culture of discussion. We ask our team members and volunteers, internal and external participants and visitors, programme contributors, supporters/sponsors, as well as cooperation and contract partners to help us on this mission.

Please respond should you notice or be affected by any of the unacceptable behaviours listed below, someone in distress, or a dangerous situation, even if the incident seems minor at first. Intervene calmly and politely yourself and/or bring unacceptable behaviour to the attention of the organisers and other contributors.

While we’d like you to address these issues immediately, please feel free to also contact us any time after the event. We will treat these reports as a priority and investigate all cases.

Unacceptable behaviours include:

Abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning language (verbal or written) and behaviour.
Inappropriate physical contact, sexualising statements or behaviour, and unwanted sexual attention,
Intimidation, stalking or running after,
Repeated disruption of lectures or other programmes.

If a request is made for the unacceptable behaviour to cease, this must be complied with immediately. If a person behaves in an unacceptable manner, the organisers will take action depending on what they deem appropriate.

Possible consequences include:

An immediate exclusion from the current programme without warning,
In the case of a paid programme, exclusion of a participating person without refund of the costs incurred,
A permanent exclusion from BIOTOPIA programmes,
Appropriate legal action.
