On International Museum Day, the BIOTOPIA Lab and the Museum Mensch und Natur invite adults, families and children to participate and experiment!
The special topic is Gregor Mendel (*1822 - † 1884), who is considered the founder of classical genetics and celebrates his 200th birthday this year. He researched how certain characteristics of living beings are passed on from generation to generation.
Today, we know that trait information is stored in DNA.
On International Museum Day:
- Visit us in the nearby BIOTOPIA Lab and isolate DNA from banana, carrier of genetic information.
- Meet our museum educator at the Museum Mensch und Natur in the permanent exhibition Genwelten and immerse yourself in the exciting science of Mendel.
- Afterwards, stroll through the "Mendel-themed trail" in the botanical garden.
