TALK IN GERMAN LANGUAGE
A talk by Prof. Volker Staab as part of TUM's "MONTAGSREIHE" (Monday Series) about Staab's approach regarding construction in existing contexts and the BIOTOPIA project at Nymphenburg Castle.
Organiser: Technical University Munich, Faculty of Architecture, Chair of Architectural Design, Rebuilding and Conservation jointly with BIOTOPIA
Volker Staab has made a name of himself with apposite interventions at historically charged sites. Since his first project, the "Neues Museum" in Nuremberg, which replied to the historical backyard with a 100m long glass facade, his office Staab Architekten continuously develops new answers to the following question: How does a new building relate to its grown environment? Reconstruction, complementary contrasts, unity of old and new, exposure of structural layers or invisibility - "radically delicate" describes this conceptual scope, which is explored anew with each new building task and situation encountered. As most of the office's projects result from competition successes, the clarity of the architectural concepts forms the foundation of the office's work and the further development process.
The new building for BIOTOPIA will be positioned at the northern wing of Nymphenburg Palace, adjacent to the Museum Man and Nature. Currently, a former structure of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University is situated there: A plain building dating back to the 60s, which is not suited to house a museum and which is not under monument protection. Staab Architekten has won 2014 architectural competition. During the talk, Volker Staab will present the current plans in the context of earlier successful building alterations. The discussion afterwards will be moderated by Prof. Andreas Hild.
Admissions free, no registration necessary.
