Take a break for Biodiversity: Dawn Chorus starts again!

28 April 2023

On May 1st, 2023, the main bird song collection period of the Dawn Chorus project will start again: people all over the world are invited to record and share the morning bird chorus at their own doorstep and thus make an important contribution to biodiversity research even without prior knowledge.

"Stop and Listen. Free your mind." - with this motto, the Naturkundemuseum Bayern/BIOTOPIA Lab and the Bavarian nature conservation association LBV (Landesbund für Vogel- und Naturschutz) invite you once again in 2023 to take time out from your hectic everyday life. Simply step outside the front door at dawn, experience, record and share the magic of the awakening bird chorus. Without any prior knowledge, anyone can make an important contribution to biodiversity research: the recordings form a valuable database for science to identify changes in biodiversity - for example, due to the climate crisis or new habitat conditions.

It's easy to participate with the free Dawn Chorus app, which automatically adds your location and time. It also shows the ideal recording time for your location for the next few days. The more and the more often people participate in "Dawn Chorus," the more complete the mosaic of bird songs will become worldwide. At the same time, the app offers various ways to get creative and thus sharpens your senses for the nature that surrounds you.
