On December 6, the first exhibition in the Bavarian Natural History Museum's Future Lab opens its doors: “Natur gestaltet” (Nature shapes) takes a close look at buildings and the activities associated with them.
Sometimes these can change entire landscapes - and not only when the human species has a hand in it. Other creatures have also developed ingenious building techniques to catch prey or protect themselves and their offspring from heat, cold or predators. How closely intertwined the building strategies of different creatures are becomes particularly clear when animals use human constructions or, conversely, when humans incorporate the growth of plants into their constructions.
Among other things, “Natur gestaltet” shows impressive objects from the Bavarian State Collections as well as a living spider building its web. With works from art and design, it also opens up an interdisciplinary approach to the topic and invites visitors to change their perspective and join in.
The Future Lab gives a foretaste of the planned Natural History Museum of Bavaria - and it offers the opportunity to try out various themes, exhibition formats and programs right now. These experiences will be incorporated into the development of the new museum so that it can grow and become something unique.
